![]() Our strategy - which is much different than “my” strategy - is very different if we are playing against double Americans or double British, and we need to determine what we are going to do before the game even finishes loading. The first thing that Dagg3r and I do when a game starts is look at who we are playing - not the players’ names, though that can sometimes be useful information, but more importantly, the factions that they are playing. Make sure that you are always on some sort of “TeamSpeak” (or similar) VOIP program, as talking is not only faster than typing, but it allows you to communicate while controlling your units. You and your teammate both need to know what you are doing at all times on the battlefield. Like in any successful relationship, communication is key. This is seen both in how you communicate with each other, what units each of you build, and how you command your units - all three elements are essential for success. To be a great team, you must not only build units and buildings that will aid yourself as well as your teammate, but you need to operate as one team, not as two individuals, at all times on the battlefield. What I mean by “team mentality” is that you are not simply playing two 1v1 games at the same time (with just the added benefit of shared resources.) While many of the units, structures, and abilities outlined in MrZ’s article “Synergy in Teamgames” can be used to create synergy within your team, true team synergy requires much more than a few units and buildings. Now, this can be very hard for new members to team games who come from a background of primarily 1v1 play. So how do you create synergy with your team? The most important part in obtaining team synergy is that you need to have the “team mentality” for every one of your games. However, this much easier said than done, and I hope that my experiences with my teammate Dagg3r can provide some insight on how you can achieve true team synergy. Synergy, according to The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, is “the interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.” This is goal of every team in every sport, and it remains true even in Company of Heroes and is how the great teams are separated from the merely good ones. This individuality stuff is a bunch of bullshit." It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This article may not be reproduced in whole or in part without the explicit written permission of cl0ak.
