However, despite my misgivings around how I lost, I am still glad that at level 4 the game found a new and interesting way to challenge the player. Maybe it was standard operating procedure for a tavern in the middle ages to cook whatever people ask for even if it isn’t on the menu, but from a game-play perspective there wasn’t much real warning that you were about to face foodie wrath. While I actually am kind of pleased that I lost, I still think it was kind of a cheap loss. Once the fist recipe has been kicked out, I can start slowly rolling out food. Create a research lab, stuff it with a few more stoves, and put every maiden on my staff in there. Moving forward I think that is going to be my standard start. This helped me push out the new recipes much more quickly than I would have otherwise. This also had the added bonus of pushing all of my maidens into the research lab. As far as I can tell people get upset more slowly waiting around for food than they do when you don’t have the right food to serve them. The first thing I did was put a hold on serving food. On the second play-through I adjusted my strategy a bit. Now I don’t know if I just pulled a really unlucky draw and got back to back to back to back requests for un-researched recipes, but either way I was shocked at how fast it took me down. The majority of my reputation losses were due to me not having a full set of recipes for the patrons to choose from. In my first play-through I ended up losing the level due to my reputation falling down to 0. Replayability isn’t the greatest, and its gameplay can become repetitive after a while, but overall it is definitely a solid game.I was totally caught off guard by how much of a negative impact not having my recipes researched could have. Arguably there are some bugs and problems that need to be addressed, but for the most part, this game is functional and straight to the point. Given the fact that this game was created by an indie team, I must say it’s quite impressive. At times it does feel somewhat linear in terms of depth, but it is still an enjoyable experience nonetheless. If you are a big fan of tycoon-style games, then this game will most definitely fulfill your needs as a gamer. All these caveats aside, the gameplay is really fun, and the music is quite exceptional. The building mechanics are quite good for the most part, but I do wish there were slightly more decorations. ![]() At its current level, it isn’t very feature-oriented and is quite short at only 15 hours of gameplay. Updates are coming from the game, according to the game developer however, the initial launch is quite lacking. Unfortunately, Its simplistic nature and an underwhelming amount of late-game content make replayability quite mediocre. Tavern Master has some redeeming qualities that make it a fun little charming game. The provided “fast forward” speed is too slow. This means that you’ll have to wait and watch for a long time. You can unlock new techs by organizing special events, but keep in mind that you can only do that every three days. Eventually, your tavern might get enough popularity even to grab the Queen and King’s attention. When you first play the game, you will start off with low-class customers however, as you progress, you may start getting more prestigious customers over time. There is also a hierarchy of different classes of guests. ![]() You should also do as much research as possible so you can unlock everything quicker. You can also hire special employees/services like musicians, for example, that will play music and attract special customers. You will need a mix of chefs and waitresses/waiters to ensure that the business runs smoothly. Hiring employees is also a crucial step to getting your business running. Your finances are a very important asset in the game, so it’s essential you keep your guests happy as poor customer satisfaction will make it slightly more difficult to progress in the game. However, along with this simple rule, you will also manage your finances, hire new workers, and expand the tavern itself. When compared to other tycoon games on the market, Tavern Master is a bit more on the simplistic side.Īs mentioned before, the gameplay involves managing a medieval tavern and taking care of your guests. When you first start the game, you will be given a small shack with minimal furniture, but over time you can upgrade that to be much larger in size.
